Category Archives: The Radical Religious Right
This is a great article that unflinchingly speaks truth to power. It is so important that people make the connection between the oppression of women and the patriarchal, male-supremacist religious fundamentalist right wing, a tool of the ruling plutocrats.
The editorial staff at the Week’s examination of the GOP’s poor showing in the 2012 elections is rather superficial because the Republicans don’t need a face lift, they need a heart transplant. Their bone-deep misogyny and pandering to the radical religious right needs to to be excised and exorcised if they want to have any hope of appealing to anyone other than the lunatic fundamentalist fringe. Their “woman problem” (more accurately woman-hating problem) is their worst failing and should have been first on this writer’s list.
Romney signed his own political death warrant when he named blatant misogynist Paul Ryan as his running mate and continued to support Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock and didn’t denounce them and Joe Walsh for the idiots they are when they made their ill-informed and outrageous remarks about rape, rape-induced pregnancy, and abortion.
The article in Reuters outlines the real reason Obama and so many other pro-choice Democrats, especially women, won: women voters refusal to accept the war on women unleashed by the Tea Party Republicans. The defeat of Romney/Ryan, Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, Joe Walsh, and the rabid Allen West and the election of pro-choice women like Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Baldwin, Heidi Heitkamp, Kirsten Gillibrand, Maria Cantwell, Tammy Duckworth, Dianne Feinstein, Carol Shea-Porter, Mazie Hirono, and Annie Kuster to the Senate for the first-time ever total of 19 pro-choice women (!) is abundant proof of this.
YES!! Vagina owners, not mere renters (or squatters) HAVE HUMAN RIGHTS TOO!! This is why we need to pass the ERA, ratify CEDAW, and institute 50/50 gender representation in order to put an end to the War on Women! Please go to the Women’s Declaration and sign it!

My use of the somewhat crude terms of “renters” and “squatters” is to graphically emphasize the fact that it is the people who do not HAVE vaginas who are perpetually trying to legislate them. It truly is a war on women by controlling, arrogant, misogynist men like Romney, and even more so Ryan, and their radical religious right brethren. For these men, women are nothing more than property they think they own.
It is tragic testimony to how effectively brainwashed some self-hating women are who go along with their agenda and think of themselves as nothing more than property, mainly for the approval of these woman-hating men who love nothing more than for women to beat up other women. But they betray their own biology, sovereignty, and selfhood by giving away their ownership rights and attacking other women who have enough self-esteem to stand up to this outrageous assault on their human rights.
Biden’s smiles were dazzling both in their tooth and truth! They were honest reactions to the ridiculous assertions by this meanspirited little liar who would throw the elderly, the poor, and women under the bus to serve his 1% paymasters. I keep wondering why no one has commented on Ryan’s smirks, ugly both in intent and presentation.
Another huge difference between these two other than their grins and ability to see/speak the truth is the fact that Biden actually respects the separation of church and state even though he is a Catholic whereas Ryan thinks he and the POPE have the right to make women’s most personal decisions for them, arrogant twerp that he is.

Planned Parenthood is fighting for the rights of women to self-determination–the fact that now in the wake of the Citizens United decision they have to spend so much money to combat the wave of SuperPac money funding the radical religious Republican right is a serious shame–another of the many reasons why we must pass a constitutional amendment to abolish corporate “personhood” and money as “speech.”
For now, until we restore sanity, money unfortunately is the name of the game and it is vital that women know how misogynist Romney and Ryan are; male supremacists like them will not stop until they eliminate all of the progress women have made in the last 50 years.
Saudi Arabia remains a bastion of male supremacy and, as pointed out in this article, only complied with sending a couple of tokens to the Olympics because they were forced to in order to participate. It is a disgusting example of a culture steeped in a repressive patriarchal religion and the absence of freedom that results when the church rules the state–a cautionary tale for this country which is well on its way to becoming a theocracy. Saudi Arabia needs to become secularized in order to join the 21st century and make some real changes like voting rights, driving rights, and educational rights for women if they want to show the world they are serious about progress.
The fundamentalist group, the CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship), has utilized its foothold in the public schools, enabled by the 2001 supreme court decision, to push its ever-increasing extremist agenda of intolerance and hatred that legitimizes even genocide of groups who believe differently than the CEF, all under the euphemistic, innocuous title of the “Good News Club”. This could, incidentally, include not only other religions like Islam, but even mainstream Christians who do not go along with their literalist beliefs. The article is also making the point that using the school grounds (likely classrooms) to inculcate this kind of message imbues it with more authority and makes it appear to a small child as if the school approves it.
It is important to point out that while Jesus taught and practiced kindness, love, and compassion, he was a departure from the Old Testament patriarchal god of wrath who was more than ok with genocide and in fact demanded it regularly towards the Mesopotamian peoples who practiced goddess worship. The case of Jezebel and her people is instructive. This is why the radical religious rightwing are so hellbent in their persecution of women and people who believe differently than they do. These hatemongers who preach this vile swill now have representatives in the highest court and every branch and level of government.
As Dorothy R. commented on this article, the Bible should not be taken literally; Joseph Campbell said that people read the Bible as prose (literal) when it should be read as poetry (symbolic). Her interpretation, though a very meaningful one, does not undo the fact that the Hebrews quite literally wiped out whole civilizations justified by their self-serving religious beliefs and must be acknowledged as quite real in their violence.
The most disturbing aspect of all this is that young children are being terrorized and brainwashed in this way when they are much too young to be able to cognitively evaluate it or defend against the emotional impact of it, and the eventual way this will affect larger society. Whether their parents think it is “ok” to subject them to this or not (some of them I’m sure don’t realize the content of these “lessons”) does not make it ok. This is a form of emotional and psychological child abuse and the CEF should be up on charges of such in my opinion, as well as arguably the parents of these poor kids who are, for all intents and purposes, hostages.
The overarching danger here is that the Judeo-Christian extremists today are following in the footsteps of the Hebrews of ancient times and continue to read biblical passages like this as literal injunctions to mindlessly apply in the present as they were in the past and to inflict this authoritarian fascism on others, even innocent little impressionable minds. This is monumentally abusive of our children, our schools, and society at large and MUST BE RESISTED if we are to retain our democracy. It is a violation of the separation of church and state and puts us ever closer towards being a fundamentalist theocracy.
