Obama and the Democrats: Selling us Out Again

After being elected on a tide of disgust fueled by the Tea Party Republicans’ austerity war on the poor and the middle class, and Obama/Biden promising during the election that, “Social Security is off the table,” the White House is once again turning out to be a pack of liars.  Some of us could see this coming.

I did NOT vote for Obama and spoke up about what I saw as wishful thinking on the part of a number of Democrats I know who thought he would be better the second term, that he would protect the social safety net (instead of being the one to put it on the table as a bargaining chip), who made excuses for his signing the first NDAA bill that stripped us of our 5th amendment rights (even though he was the one insisting on Section 1021 and 1022 as he is now).  I warned that there was no rational basis for the idea that he would be “better” and that he likely would be at least as bad as he wouldn’t be worried about re-election; now it pains me to say he is doing the very things some of us predicted he would do.  Though I didn’t believe it, I was hoping I would be wrong.

We so desperately need better choices, and there were those choices this election cycle, it’s just that no one seriously considered them.  I’ll tell you why.  The Democratic Party and the Republican Party both fight any third party candidates participating in the debates, make up impossible rules for ballot qualification for third party and independent candidates, have allowed the hostile takeover of the debate moderation by the corporate Commission on Presidential Debates, who wrested control from the League of Women Voters who were fair and impartial, and continue to field candidates nearly indistinguishable from one another.  Surveys have shown that 70% of people surveyed would vote third party if they thought the candidate could win,  and we need to level the playing field so that third party candidates have a chance to get heard so that they are seen as viable so they CAN win!

As an example of the kind of fascist control the two-party tyranny exerts, Jill Stein and Cheri Honkala, the Green Party presidential candidates, were ARRESTED AND HELD in a special facility where they were bound for hours with no one knowing where they were at first, when they tried to attend the presidential debate in New York, even though they were on over 80% of the ballots nationwide??!! What an outrageous hypocrisy in a country always touting its freedom! There is a serious need for some actual democracy and plurality in this country, not this two-party rule, and my question to you Democrats is, when are you going to demand better from your party and stop enabling this kind of inequality?!

Now you can “rather have” Obama sell us down the river by cutting Social Security, rather than Romney.  What’s the difference?!  This “deal” is coming from the White House, just like the demand that our 5th amendment rights in the NDAA bill be thrown out.  I would have rather had someone way better than Obama, like the P & F, Green, or Justice Party candidates that ran—wouldn’t you??!!  We need to change this system that stomps all over the chances of everyone but the Democrat and Republican “choices.” This is especially true for President; there are much better Democrats in Congress (the House AND the Senate) but since “their guy” in the W. H. is selling us out, they are going to go along with it, whereas if a Republican were in the White House, they would be putting up more of a fight, because party politics always win out, not standing up for the citizens of this country.  This is why I say we need to do away with parties altogether, so that we can deal with the issues rather than play out endless partisan struggles for power, but in the meantime, we could at least have a plurality, so that there would be more choices and more voices, some of whom are bound to be better than this continuing charade!

5 Election Day lessons for the GOP – The Week

The editorial staff at the Week’s examination of the GOP’s poor showing in the 2012 elections is rather superficial because the Republicans don’t need a face lift, they need a heart transplant. Their bone-deep misogyny and pandering to the radical religious right needs to to be excised and exorcised if they want to have any hope of appealing to anyone other than the lunatic fundamentalist fringe. Their “woman problem” (more accurately woman-hating problem) is their worst failing and should have been first on this writer’s list.

Romney signed his own political death warrant when he named blatant misogynist Paul Ryan as his running mate and continued to support Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock and didn’t denounce them and Joe Walsh for the  idiots they are when they made their ill-informed and outrageous remarks about rape, rape-induced pregnancy, and abortion.

The article in Reuters outlines the real reason Obama and so many other pro-choice Democrats, especially women, won:  women voters refusal to accept the war on women unleashed by the Tea Party Republicans.  The defeat of Romney/Ryan, Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, Joe Walsh, and the rabid Allen West and the election of pro-choice women like Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Baldwin, Heidi Heitkamp, Kirsten Gillibrand, Maria Cantwell, Tammy Duckworth, Dianne Feinstein, Carol Shea-Porter, Mazie Hirono, and Annie Kuster to the Senate for the first-time ever total of 19 pro-choice women (!) is abundant proof of this.

Patriarchal Dominionism: The Core of Tyranny

It is no accident that today we are seeing the confluence of the corporate state, the seizure of political power by the church, and an escalating war on women.  Like the corporation, the church was an instrument of the king, and we are coming full circle again, witnessing the blurring of the line between church and state, the ascendancy of corporate fascism, and mounting scapegoating of women.

Some of you may wonder why the GOP has slipped a cog and gone completely off the rails with regard to women’s basic human rights.  The answer is this:  the GOP has been taken over by corporate interests and the right-wing authoritarian fundamentalist church, both of whom have always been exceedingly hostile to women’s autonomy, psychosocial independence, power, financial freedom, and self-determination.  The Republican Party started its slide into fascist theocracy when it put the church’s opposition to abortion into its platform in 1976, and plummeted into full-blown misogyny in 2012 with its rape comments and inclusion of a call for a “fetal personhood” amendment to the Constitution.

In the beginnings of this country, the colonies were ruled by governors who were appointed by the king and who were also church leaders; they also were beholden to and exploited by the corporate arm of the monarchy in the form of the British East India Company.  It was tyranny on the part of both the church and the corporation that led to the series of revolts, such as the Boston Tea Party, that culminated in the American Revolution. The Revolution also coincided with the most outrageous abuse of power by the church:  the witch hunts. This tyranny has a long history, going back to the beginnings of patriarchy.

In antiquity, there was goddess-worship for 25,000 years prior to the advent of patriarchal religions which took over by force.  The goddess-worshipping matrilineal culture of Minoa, an egalitarian and peaceful, prosperous, highly-developed culture that honored and respected the earth and life-giving nature and revered the sacred feminine, was destroyed by an invading patriarchal group who worshipped a male war god who ruled by fear and domination and who brought violence, death and destruction, gender inequality, and the abuse of power with it.

The patriarchal religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, which appeared much more recently and currently dominate, are all Middle-Eastern in origin, and despite all the concern about Sharia Law, there is very little difference between the Al Qaida and Christian fundamentalist dominionists in their zeal to oppress women.  There is likewise little difference between the last two U. S. administrations’ use of torture, labeling people “terrorists”, and use of psychological manipulation and wars to pursue domination of the earth and every creature on it, and the Inquisitions’ and Puritans’ use of torture and labeling women as “witches” and the use of Christian dogma to silence, control, and intimidate.

Though the Christian dominionist reconstructionists would like us to believe that the country was founded as a “Christian nation” and should be ruled by rigid Christian orthodoxy, the fact is they are talking about puritanical colonial America, not the post-revolutionary, independent United States of America, which was founded on the principles of the Enlightenment—rationalism, universalism, empiricism, and most importantly, secularism.  Unless we put a stop to the takeover of our government by both the corporation and the church, we are going to be living in a fascist, authoritarian, Calvinist, corporate theocracy where individual freedoms, especially for women, are a thing of the past.  We must WAKE UP and kick the corporation, and the church, out of government once and for all and pass the Equal Rights Amendment and an amendment to abolish corporate personhood before women once again are chattel and patriarchal corporate and ecclesiastical tyranny totally obliterate the rights of human beings.

Celebrities Agree: Vagina Owners Need Rights, Too | Care2 Causes

YES!! Vagina owners, not mere renters (or squatters) HAVE HUMAN RIGHTS TOO!!  This is why we need to pass the ERA, ratify CEDAW, and institute 50/50 gender representation in order to put an end to the War on Women! Please go to the Women’s Declaration and sign it!

THE WOMEN’S DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE! http://www.thepetitionsite.com/483/945/818/the-declaration-of-by-and-for-women/

My use of the somewhat crude terms of  “renters” and “squatters” is to graphically emphasize the fact that it is the people who do not HAVE vaginas who are perpetually trying to legislate them.  It truly is a war on women by controlling, arrogant, misogynist men like Romney, and even more so Ryan, and their radical religious right brethren.  For these men, women are nothing more than property they think they own.

It is tragic testimony to how effectively brainwashed some self-hating women are who go along with their agenda and think of themselves as nothing more than property, mainly for the approval of these woman-hating men who love nothing more than for women to beat up other women.  But they betray their own biology, sovereignty, and selfhood by giving away their ownership rights and attacking other women who have enough self-esteem to stand up to this outrageous assault on their human rights.

Democracy Now’s Expanded Coverage of the Presidential Debates AKA: A Dog Day Afternoon

Since the third party candidates were again elbowed out of the debates by the two major parties, Democracy Now! included two of them, Jill Stein of the Green Party and Rocky Anderson of the newly-formed Justice Party in an expanded version.  Apparently Amy Goodman had asked the Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson, to appear but he reportedly had a scheduling conflict; no mention was made of Roseanne Barr, who is running on the Peace and Freedom ticket, a glaring oversight.  I personally am thankful that time was not wasted on Johnson who would likely have been spouting Libertarian ideology, essentially a Lite version of the Republican corporate propaganda, which offers no solutions in the real world, merely trying as it does to prop up a failing capitalist system (the so-called “free market”) and justify hyper-individualist and corporate greed a la Ayn Rand.

The main difference between the responses in this interview of the two corporate candidates vs. the third party ones is that the third party people are actually dealing with reality and telling the truth instead of trying to peddle an ideology and a bogus bunch of non-issues. I was struck by not only the similarities between Obamney/Rombama but how many times they emphasized them, betraying the fact that they have reached agreement in secret ahead of time on what they would not challenge one another (see http://www.democracynow.org/2012/10/3/ahead_of_first_obama_romney_debate re contractual agreement reached by Commission on Presidential Debates behind closed doors).

Romney at least was much more convincing with his reality spin (sprinkled with some very accurate and valid criticisms of “Obamacare,” namely the mandate and robbing Medicare in order to fund it) and came across as even likeable for once, while Obama had great difficulty trying to shine up a lackluster, pisspoor record and looked flustered and ineffectual, which he basically is, letting Romney totally off the hook for all his arrogant statements/behavior (the 47%, not turning in his tax returns, picking austerity promoter/woman-basher Ryan as his running mate, etc.).  Every dog, as they say, has his day, and Romney had his in this first debate.

Obama is such a sellout he didn’t even point out that it was the corporate interests Romney vaunts who insisted on the changes to the healthcare bill of which Romney is criticizing him, and his lousy performance is his own fault for being such a lapdog for the right wing.  It’s pathetic the way he keeps trying to get their approval by doing their bidding and then gets his feelings hurt when they kick him for it; he keeps waiting for the pat on the head that is never going to come from these 1%’ers and neocons.  I think his most fatal flaw is his need to be liked by the wrong people and not knowing who his friends are, or at least were.

Given the extremist right wing’s mendacity, underhandedness, hypocrisy, and cutthroat draconian mentality, anyone reasonably intelligent could have predicted they would do exactly what they have done:  use him as their tool for their own use and then blame him for going along with their agenda.  He needs to stop dancing with the devil, but the likelihood of that at this juncture is remote, since he has become more and more devilish the longer he has danced to their tune.

All he needs to do to regain his soul, as well as his dignity,  is get honest, abandon his foolish ambition to be a member of the white elite, face the fact that he would never be more than their police dog, embrace his poor but truly morally superior upbringing, and repent his failure to make good on his 2008 campaign promises and he could laugh off the right wing’s trying to make him their fall guy/whipping post for enabling them, turn on them and give them what-for, biting the hand that has fed him on table scraps.  That would really give the people some HOPE for a change!

Instead, he will almost certainly stick with the bullshit, be “pragmatic,”  try to justify the unjustifiable, and continue to beg for the approval of his corporate masters, being the docile, housebroken pet he is, and may likely go down, unredeemed, and in the process give us over to a reign of the Romney-Ryan demon duo and the greater evil since a majority of Americans are not yet awake enough to vote third party.

In the last analysis, the only real contrast was between the corporate elitist Republicrat puppets and the third party candidates, Jill Stein of the Green Party and Rocky Anderson of the Justice Party, real people addressing real issues, offering actual solutions, like the Green New Deal, and a good reality check on the corporate approved two-party doublespeak. It is regrettable that Roseanne Barr, the Peace and Freedom Party candidate, was not asked to participate–we would have heard an even more real, hard-hitting, truthful, down-to-earth treatment of the issues.

The Declaration of, by, and for Women – Revised

We, the Women of the United States of America on behalf of all women everywhere, hereby declare that we are inviolable sovereign entities whose worth is self-evident and whose life, liberty, pursuit of happiness and self-determination are inalienable fundamental human rights.

Whereas Women have been, are, and will be the basic human template, bearers and sustainers of life, the gardeners, the herbalists, the healers, the nurturers, the teachers, scientists, legislators, doctors, jurists, athletes, inventors, artists, makers of music and makers of home, the poets, the writers, the breadwinners, the builders of community and nations, the cornerstone of society and the family

Whereas the rule by patriarchy for thousands of years has resulted in our rights being abridged, our being treated as property, our bodies being assaulted and sold, the Earth, our mother, plundered and polluted by profligate greed, our peace destroyed by continual war, our communities and families broken, and our institutions corrupted

Whereas patriarchy has perpetuated male dominance by:

• Systematically excluding women from the realms of power, blocking the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, working against equal representation in government, refusing to ratify the CEDAW convention, and passing discriminatory legislation despite the fact that we are 51% of the population, pay taxes, and are your mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, and wives

• Denying women economic parity by relying on women’s unpaid domestic labor, raising of children, caring for elders or loved ones who are chronically ill, denying women promotions, equal pay for equal work, working against increases in minimum wage and cost-of-living increases to Social Security

• Oppressing women and causing immeasurable physical, psychological and emotional harm through commodification, sexual exploitation, trafficking, sexual harassment, rape, molestation, physical assault, emotional abuse, genital mutilation, psychological intimidation, domestic violence

• Attempting to control women’s reproduction by blocking access to sex education, family planning, birth control methods, pregnancy termination and other medical procedures, thereby restricting women’s autonomy and ability to reach full potential and even endangering women’s lives and health

Whereas the world is dangerously out-of-balance due to the abuse of power characteristic of patriarchy and empire-building, and as there will never be an end to conflict and injustice or lasting peace and harmony so long as women are mistreated and live in one form of bondage or another in societies ruled by men

We the Women hereby declare our independence from sanction or approval by a patriarchal culture or world system. We abjure and condemn all forms of domination of and violence towards women and girls everywhere. We declare our human right to live in a world free from misogyny and male supremacy that oppresses us and attempts to alienate us from our sisters in the struggle for truth, justice, fairness, equality, and peace

We unite in spirit and in action with all women and all men of conscience who join us in the struggle against the oppression of patriarchy until every woman in every nation everywhere across the globe can live in a world that is safe, harmonious, and respectful of life and nature, where women and the sacred feminine are again respected and honored as was the case in antiquity, and where we can live in peace and prosperity as many matri-focal societies have done

We hereby join in solidarity with our sisters throughout the world, across the boundaries of space and time, in acknowledging the women who came before us and who will follow us, in acceptance of all ages, colors, socioeconomic classes, national origins, ethnicities, sexual preferences, political affinities, abilities, and spiritual practices, in reclaiming our rightful place in roles of leadership in the family, the workplace, society, worship, and government.

We demand gender parity in the form of fair and equal representation in government, an immediate end to the War on Women and ALL wars, and ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment and Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). We reclaim our long denied birthright to fully and freely explore and utilize our gifts, talents, intellect, spirituality, emotional sensibilities, sexuality, creativity, and power and declare this day, July 1, 2012 as our day of GLOBAL LIBERATION!

Flora Nicholas: The Declaration of Independence 2012 (As Written of, by and for Women)

This is a very good comedic take on the laughable stupidity of male dominionism and institutionalized male supremacy.  The only modification I would submit is:  “. . . we would say to you, the men who have suggested that placing an aspirin between our legs is an acceptable form of birth control, that you are”  instead of “indeed without brain cells,”  you are “giving us a permanent headache,” though the original is certainly inarguably true.

Note to author:  We are living proof that “brilliant minds think alike” as Women Occupy birthed a serious women’s declaration that I penned with the collaboration of others, which was read on July 1, 2012 at the Occupy National Gathering femGA.  To view it, go to:  http://wp.me/p1Tioi-7j
