Patriarchal Dominionism: The Core of Tyranny

It is no accident that today we are seeing the confluence of the corporate state, the seizure of political power by the church, and an escalating war on women.  Like the corporation, the church was an instrument of the king, and we are coming full circle again, witnessing the blurring of the line between church and state, the ascendancy of corporate fascism, and mounting scapegoating of women.

Some of you may wonder why the GOP has slipped a cog and gone completely off the rails with regard to women’s basic human rights.  The answer is this:  the GOP has been taken over by corporate interests and the right-wing authoritarian fundamentalist church, both of whom have always been exceedingly hostile to women’s autonomy, psychosocial independence, power, financial freedom, and self-determination.  The Republican Party started its slide into fascist theocracy when it put the church’s opposition to abortion into its platform in 1976, and plummeted into full-blown misogyny in 2012 with its rape comments and inclusion of a call for a “fetal personhood” amendment to the Constitution.

In the beginnings of this country, the colonies were ruled by governors who were appointed by the king and who were also church leaders; they also were beholden to and exploited by the corporate arm of the monarchy in the form of the British East India Company.  It was tyranny on the part of both the church and the corporation that led to the series of revolts, such as the Boston Tea Party, that culminated in the American Revolution. The Revolution also coincided with the most outrageous abuse of power by the church:  the witch hunts. This tyranny has a long history, going back to the beginnings of patriarchy.

In antiquity, there was goddess-worship for 25,000 years prior to the advent of patriarchal religions which took over by force.  The goddess-worshipping matrilineal culture of Minoa, an egalitarian and peaceful, prosperous, highly-developed culture that honored and respected the earth and life-giving nature and revered the sacred feminine, was destroyed by an invading patriarchal group who worshipped a male war god who ruled by fear and domination and who brought violence, death and destruction, gender inequality, and the abuse of power with it.

The patriarchal religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, which appeared much more recently and currently dominate, are all Middle-Eastern in origin, and despite all the concern about Sharia Law, there is very little difference between the Al Qaida and Christian fundamentalist dominionists in their zeal to oppress women.  There is likewise little difference between the last two U. S. administrations’ use of torture, labeling people “terrorists”, and use of psychological manipulation and wars to pursue domination of the earth and every creature on it, and the Inquisitions’ and Puritans’ use of torture and labeling women as “witches” and the use of Christian dogma to silence, control, and intimidate.

Though the Christian dominionist reconstructionists would like us to believe that the country was founded as a “Christian nation” and should be ruled by rigid Christian orthodoxy, the fact is they are talking about puritanical colonial America, not the post-revolutionary, independent United States of America, which was founded on the principles of the Enlightenment—rationalism, universalism, empiricism, and most importantly, secularism.  Unless we put a stop to the takeover of our government by both the corporation and the church, we are going to be living in a fascist, authoritarian, Calvinist, corporate theocracy where individual freedoms, especially for women, are a thing of the past.  We must WAKE UP and kick the corporation, and the church, out of government once and for all and pass the Equal Rights Amendment and an amendment to abolish corporate personhood before women once again are chattel and patriarchal corporate and ecclesiastical tyranny totally obliterate the rights of human beings.

THE WOMEN’S REVOLUTION HAS BEGUN

MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT for Immediate Release August 12, 2012

CONTACT:  Sandy Oestreich, President, National Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) Alliance—727/ 804-3052

Women Rally at the U.S. Capitol to Protest surge of “NEO-MEDIEVAL PERSECUTION”, the current all-too-real legislative War on Women

WHEN:  SATURDAY, AUGUST 18, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE:  U.S. CAPITOL WEST LAWN, Washington, DC

WHAT:    LARGE RALLY to PROTEST current partisan legislative WAR ON WOMEN and FAMILIES (e.g., 916 anti-woman, anti-family bills over just 3-month period, ongoing)

The Capitol (Washington, DC)—The Woman’s Revolution against the partisan very real War on Women–916 anti-woman, anti-family bills IN JUST 3 MONTHS–  kicks off August 18, 2012 at the U.S. Capitol West Lawn, starting Saturday at 10 a.m.  No laughing matter to these women.

Four sassy, savvy young women are in full rebellion against the War on Women.  A bare few months ago, they came together, hopping-mad, as a grassroots organization at www.WeAreWoman.us to foment a Woman’s Revolution against the stingingly partisan legislative War on Women.

Their Rally-Protest at the Capitol will bring busloads of women and men from across the nation. Expect banners, music, balloons, bull horns, cowbells and decorated umbrellas.

Legendary speakers will represent National Women’s Political Caucus, Planned Parenthood, Huffington Post, National Organization for Women, National Equal Rights Amendment Alliance, Feminist Majority, and others protesting partisan legislators’ actions. Betty Jean Kling (PA) asserts that the ongoing War on Women that “is now gone over the top, absolutely IMMORAL to voters.”  “Engage to be The Change you want to see” is her motto.

Founder- president of the National Equal Rights Amendment Alliance (FL) which works to pass the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) into the U.S. Constitution says they will attend with banners flying.  President Sandy Oestreich (FL) says, “This War is sex discrimination to the max.  ERA makes sex discrimination (male and female alike) a violation of the U.S. Constitution. If we had ERA they would not dare strike at women like this.” Dr. Dorie Rothman (NJ) affirms, “NOTHING else has the power to change this shameful American hobby of treating women/girls as ‘less than’ men and boys.”

According to the National ERA Alliance web site, www.2PassERA,  ERA is still “viable and contemporaneous”,  and since no state has ever rescinded its vote, ratification by just three more state legislatures passes ERA into the U.S. Constitution.   Oestreich declares ERA will finally codify gender-equal treatment “across the board” and put American “females’ birthrights in the nation’s contract with its People.  Without Constitutional backing, women and girls can continue to be subjected to sieges against our personhood from every quarter.  There’s no getting used to that.”

The site details ERA’s benefits to the economy:  can boost tax revenues, cut Medicare/Medicaid and court costs, raise the  Gross Domestic Product as in other countries, and ERA uniquely requires no funding.     “What’s not to LIKE?”

ERA undergirds all women’s issues, says Wendy Cartright, one of the four WeAreWoman.us founders, “This Rally says we are not going away until women are in the nation’s contract with its people, protected from continued exploitation, harassment, rape and violence. Period.” Tennessee’s Bud Fields of BlogTalkRadio says “We’ve got to become Americans again.  Keeping half the nation’s talents hog-tied is against America’s best interests.  Shouldn’t we be electing ADULTS?”

Women Voters Make A Difference In Two More Senate Races | Care2 Causes

It’s amazing the author of this article chose to quote the sister of the rightwing Pat Buchanan, whose perceptiveness is just as  uninsightful and misogynist.  Here’s a message to the benighted Buchanans:  birth control and women’s reproductive rights are not “red herrings”, and the War on Women that these radical religious fanatics like yourselves are waging is the reason for the gender gap and women voting for ANYONE but a REPUBLICAN.  Read my lips: It is NOT the economy, stupid!  What is a tough sell is the fact that you can’t be woman-hating fascists and then put on your hypocritical smiles and expect anyone to believe that you are anything else.  We see you for who you really are and no amount of cosmetics is going to cover up the ugliness you now want to hide in order to get our votes.  Reality is coming back to kick your collective backside and it’s name is WOMAN!

If The "War On Women" Will Hurt Dems, Why Is The GOP Trying To Co-Opt It? | Care2 Causes

More lies, distortion, and disinformation from the radical right wing–what a surprise!   This is really about the only area where there is a very clear difference between the two corrupt, corporate parties.  Republican=Misogynist almost across the board–the Tea Baggers being the worst of the lot.  One of the few decent Republicans, Olympia Snowe, has resigned partly or even largely because of the unrelenting war on women by fellow Republicans. The fact is that women’s issues are about the only thing Obama and the Democrats do right (most of the time), though of course it is motivated out of self-interest as they know they are doomed without the woman vote.

Want Viagra? Your Partner Has To Swear You Are Impotent | Care2 Causes

This is a very laudable effort because these control freaks really need to be shaken awake with regard to the central issue here:  a person has a sovereign right over her/his body.  Period.  This ongoing assault on women’s basic fundamental human rights is the best example of why not only do we need to get religion out of politics and government once and for all, but why the Equal Rights Amendment needs to be ratified.  Until women have standing in the Constitution, we will be second-class citizens and be vulnerable to endless attacks.  No other group is subjected to this kind of unrelenting assault–we MUST pass the ERA.

The Radical Religious Right & OWS Movement

Something I have observed recently is that some Occupy groups, though very aware of the tendency of the Democrats and Unions to try to co-opt the movement, there is less awareness of the co-opting of a much more dangerous variety:  The Radical Religious Right.

The religious right, or the fundamentalist fascists, have an anti-human rights agenda.  There are almost NO churches that are really supportive of true freedom and democracy, especially for women or gay people, and the religious right are in many ways more of a threat than the 1%.  They are the linchpin that keeps the whole patriarchal domination system in power and they have not only taken over the Republican Party, but have now taken over the Tea Party (which was not as extreme prior to this) who are in turn, now controlling the Republican Party and running our government because of their terrorist tactics (and the enabling complicity and cowardice of the Democrats).  To allow them ANY space in the Occupy movement is suicidal, and if naïve people in OWS act on the belief that they deserve a voice in it, because they are “part of the 99%,” it is a serious mistake.

The Christian fundamentalists have already had an immense influence on our political system and would completely fuse church and state if allowed to do so.  Not only have they indoctrinated the minds of the churchgoing public, but have managed to normalize many of their extremist beliefs by buying up all the radio and TV stations they have, allowing them to propagate their extremist agenda to a wide audience.  They would likewise love to infiltrate and sabotage the Occupy  movement,  even more than they already indirectly have by the people involved who buy into this belief system to one extent or another,  and their lack of awareness of the danger this virulent group represents to every freedom they are trying to defend.  Though they are waking up to other issues, they do not seem to be aware of this one, due largely to their motive to be inclusive and tolerant, but also because it is such a part of the zeitgeist that it goes undetected.   I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.  Steven Biko’s quote applies so perfectly, “The most powerful weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed”.  We need to guard against the influence of the RRR in the movement and remove religion from politics and government once and for all.
